Mixed reality headsets don’t just render a digital layer over your living room — they map it. Room geometry, object recognition, hand tracking, often eye tracking. That’s a sensor array most people would never agree to install if you described it plainly, and yet it ships as a gaming accessory.

The interesting threat isn’t hypothetical hackers in your headset feed — it’s the mundane stuff: what data these devices collect by default, where it’s processed, and how long it’s retained. Spatial data is uniquely personal. It’s not just what you did, it’s the literal shape of where you live.

None of this means avoid the tech. It means read the permissions screen the way you’d read a contract — because increasingly, that’s what it is.
